The Institute's mission is to conduct research and educational activities regarding the ethical and practical challenges inherent in preserving the personal histories contained on an individual's website beyond the lifetime of that individual.
DII participates in relevant conferences by sending representatives, presenting papers, and hosting conference-related events. The Institute also plans to sponsor its own conferences in the future.
Without research into the ethical, legal, and social implications of digital immortality, our digital future may reveal hidden evils, become buried in litigation, or end in dysfunction.
Unlike many other nonprofits, DII does not intend to rely solely on the kindness of strangers. In addition to seeking specific grants, DII will provide consulting services. Additionally, as a source of regular income, the Institute plans to sponsor its own conferences.
